Wetumpka Falls to Opelika in Spring Game
OPELIKA, Ala. - The Opelika Bulldogs defeated Wetumpka 35-6 in the spring game scrimmage.
The loss marks the end of the spring training period for Indians football. Going up against a 7A power in Opelika, Coach Bear Woods was able to learn a lot about his team and how they hande adversity.
"We knew going in we were going to be playing a top five program in the state," Woods told the Wetumpka Herald. "It was a great opportunity for us to get some questions answered and what we can work on."
The game consisted of just three quarters. The Bulldogs took the lead on a 90-yard opening drive. With a new lineup of players, it took the Indians some time to find a rhythm.
On the final drive of the game, Wetumpka assembled a methodical 70-yard drive, managing nearly ten minutes of clock. Quarterback Kymani Clary was able to find John Hudson Wingard in the back of the endzone to put the Indians on the board in the waning moments.
The Indians will take what they have learned from playing a tough Opelika team and build on it over the summer. Indians football kicks off with the "Meet the Indians" scrimmage on August 15, and the season opener at Beauregard on August 22.
