Women's Basketball Starts 2-0 After Victories over Pike Road, PCA
WETUMPKA, ALA. - The Wetumpka Indians women's basketball team is off to a 2-0 start after defeating Pike Road and Prattville Christian Academy last week.
In the season opener at Pike Road on Thursday, the Indians won a 60-54 back-and-forth battle.
The Lady Indians saw three players in double-digit point figures, with newcomer Queen Ballard leading the way with 14 points. Ballard added 21 rebounds and earned a dominant double-double in the season opener. Freshman guard Mya Richardson and last year's Elmore County Player of the Year Lexie Smith both finished the night with 11 points.
The Indians highlighted an increased shooting ability, going 8/19 from beyond the arc with Richardson and sophomore Lalah Culpepper both going 3/6 from three.
The team had a strong defensive performance, tallying 51 rebounds, 21 steals, and four blocks. Richardson and Smith were each credited with an impressive six steals apeice.
In Friday night's clash against Prattville Christian Academy, the Indians dominated both sides of the ball, culminating in a decisive 51-20 victory.
Sophmore Logann Banks led the charge for the Indians, finishing the night with a whopping 22 points. She added 12 rebounds and seven steals, highlighting her versatility on both ends of the floor.
The Indians again highlighted the strength of their defense, grabbing 28 steals against PCA. Aaliyah Humphrey finished the night with nine points, three assists, and four steals.
The Lady Indians are back in action Tuesday, Nov. 18 against Prattville before playing at Elmore County on Thursday and at Brewbaker Tech on Friday.
